Michelin Case Study

Controlled dispatch to 150 countries worldwide, and ultra-flexible retail deliveries.

Global tire manufacturer Michelin has worked with XPO Logistics on some of its key logistics and transport operations for over a decade. Michelin trusts us to handle many of the millions of tires produced every month at Olsztyn in Poland for dispatch to 150 countries worldwide. And in France, it has asked us to implement ultra-flexible new delivery services for its retail customers.

XPO has been handling tires produced at Michelin’s Olsztyn plant since 2006. Our teams dispatch tires from our nearby 70,000m2 warehouse, using specific identification and quality control processes to ensure total traceability for tires on passenger cars, vans and trucks. Optimized herringbone loading means more tires per truck and investment in conveyors for manual handling means our teams can give their best.

In France, we have transformed transport operations to align with Michelin’s new organization. Orders for the Rhône-Alpes-Auvergne region now arrive at night at our new cross-docking facility near Lyon, for overnight consolidation and loading. Our agile approach means we can scale the teams and the fleet nightly, for guaranteed next-day delivery on at least twenty different routes.

Michelin knows it can rely on XPO for agility and service excellence. It has been able to double the tonnage of tires dispatched from Poland with a faster turnaround and no impact on quality, and in France its retail customers can place orders up to 4pm and receive their tires within 24 hours.
